A federal judge yesterday sentenced a Roxbury man to nearly four years in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm following his arrest on gun charges just a week after he was released from prison from an 18-month sentence for assault with a firearm. Read more.
Boston Police report two officers patrolling in their cruiser near Warren Gardens heard "several loud bangs," then spotted a man on Dabney Street holding an item in the air with smoke coming from the end, shortly after midnight on Saturday. Read more.
Police officers responding to 911 calls about gunfire and shouting found a man shot in the leg at 226 North St. in the North End around 2:55 a.m. Injuries were not considered life threatening.

A man busy barging his way through a crowd at Scorpion Bar on Seaport Boulevard in the Seaport one December night pulled a gun from his waistband, pointed it at a man who objected to getting shoved and warned him "I could kill you right now if I wanted to," police and bar managers told the Boston Licensing Board today. Two letter carriers were held up in Dorchester this morning, one on Mora Street around 11:15 a.m., and the second about ten minutes later and a couple blocks away on Fuller Street.
In the Mora case, the suspect appeared to have a gun. In the other case, the robber tried to grab the mailman's master mailbox key, but failed to get it. In both cases, the robber got away in a white sedan.

Boston Police report officers who initially stopped a driver for speeding in the area of Washington and Erie streets Friday night wound up arresting him for the gun with the "extended magzine" and the 22 bullets loaded into it they found in his car. Read more.
A federal judge today tossed a Mansfield man's request to quash a charge of using a gun in furtherance of a drug crime on Second Amendment grounds, concluding that even the most recent Supreme Court gun decisions still only allow gun ownership for "law abiding" reasons and that using guns to stave off other drug dealers doesn't count.
